If you’re looking beyond your kitchen or dining room and want to enjoy quality furniture outdoors too, we've got that covered! We've spent years experimenting with how to best achieve durable outdoor furniture. We started with solid wood tables and made some adjustments such as leaving gaps in the table tops so water would not sit, selecting woods less sensitive to water and the sun, and so on. Even with those changes, they go through a lot in the elements and we still found that over time, the results were undesirable, unless one was willing to commit to excessive care and maintenance.
Several factors that play into poor results are: a table is a flat surface and so water is not able to run off, the sun beats directly on it and creates wear, snow will sit, etc. As a result, any finish/wood is constantly trying to defend itself against these elements, whereas a vertical surface will not see nearly as much exposure. Beyond that, wood moves ever so slightly, opening and closing as humidity changes causing larger "gaps" for water and debris to get inside. Considering the fluctuations that outdoor furniture experiences, clear coat finishes will constantly be stretched, which leads to cracking.
Perks of Polywood
Fast forward through our trials of different woods, finishes, and build methods, after further research, we landed on this fabulous product, Polywood.
This is where Polywood lands as the savior and can be used for all outdoor furniture. Made from recycled plastic bottles, it's a durable product that can withstand and outlast the elements. Resistant to sun dying/staining, no sensitivity to temperature/humidity levels, easy to clean, and with several color options, we've found the one.
Bases, for outdoor furniture use, we've found metal to be superior to wood, for all the reasons listed above. Zinc coated, durable metals, allow for the full impact of a sturdy, yet stunning outdoor table. We have a handful of metal bases, or, if you prefer, we can customize your base style.
With that, not only can we service your indoor furniture needs, but also, your outdoor furniture needs as well!
