Expensive Mistakes: Whole-House Humidifier

Constantly hearing from us about your humidity may be redundant, but it’s very critical it’s properly maintained. When your home environment gets too dry, wood cracks! It’s as simple as that. A whole-house humidifier, typically is a must for any home. Keep in mind, just because you have one and have it set accordingly, you still need to check the system from time to time to make sure it’s working properly.

Per our recommendations, it’s best to maintain humidity levels between 35%-55%. Fluctuations from this, will result in damage. Following these guidelines will not only protect your pieces from us, but other wood furniture, cabinetry, flooring, the list goes on. If you don’t have a whole-house humidifier, we would encourage you to work on getting one installed.

As mentioned above, we did want to bring to your attention that checking your system from time to time is crucial. This is to ensure they are working properly. Below is an example of what at a glance looks like all is well, but if you look closely at the circled bit, the humidity is in fact direly low. The short and sweet of this is, make sure you fully understand how your system works and the game-changing numbers to read.

In the spirit of education, that brings us to the second item to address. Scuffing.

We wish it was not the case, but home décor seems to be finished and smooth in every area other but the bottom. It’s not something you would often think of, but when it comes to your centerpieces and even more importantly, DISHES, these rough bottoms will scuff and scratch your table top. We truly back our finish and know of none-better, but that does not mean it is indestructible.

Solution: Felt-pad your centerpieces. We’ve done so with all of our showroom items. Avoid dragging plates across the table tops, boxes as staples sticking out and/or particles caught on the bottoms can cause damage, and other items as such.

Beyond that, use the table, love it, make memories, and watch those humidity systems.
